One download link for every email you send

Last updated

Use one Jumper link behind every “Get the app” button in your newsletters, welcome emails and email signature. iPhones go to the App Store, Android phones go to Google Play, and people reading on a computer get a page with a QR code they can scan with their phone. Give each kind of email its own link and you see which one brings installs.

How to set it up

  1. Make your app’s link. Paste your App Store or Google Play link at app.jumper.to/new.
  2. Add one link per kind of email. On your app’s page, add install links with the channel Email: one for the newsletter, one for welcome emails, one for your signature.
  3. Put it behind your buttons. In your email tool, paste the link as the address of your “Get the app” button or of the store badges.
  4. Send yourself a test. Open the test email on an iPhone, an Android phone and a computer, and tap the button on each.

Where it goes in your emails

Every email that mentions your app is a chance to get it installed. These are the usual places:

Email links for one app

One link each, so you can tell them apart in your numbers.

EmailWhere the link goesMedium to type
NewsletterA “Get the app” button or both store badgesnewsletter
Welcome and onboarding emailsThe button that asks people to install the appwelcome
Your email signatureOne line: “Get our app”signature
Receipts and order emailsA short line under the orderreceipt
Press releasesThe download line, next to the QR codepress

The medium is any short word you choose; the channel stays Email.

Many emails are read on a computer

A store link opened on a computer is a dead end: a computer cannot install a phone app. A Jumper link opened on a computer shows a landing page for your app instead, with its icon, name, the official store buttons, a QR code and a “send to my phone” form. The reader scans the code with the phone next to the keyboard and lands in the right store.

If you prefer, send computers to your own website. You choose that once per link.

What happens in mail apps

Gmail and Apple Mail open links in Safari or Chrome, or in their built-in view of them, where the App Store and Google Play open directly. There is no page in between: the reader taps your button and the store opens. Our test results list Gmail on iPhone and Android with dates.

Your email tool’s own click tracking

Most email tools change every link so they can count clicks: the click goes to them first, then on to your Jumper link. Keep that on; it does not break anything. Your email tool counts clicks, Jumper counts taps and reached stores, and the stores count installs.

Some tools also add their own campaign tags to every link. Google Play then receives those tags instead of the ones on your Jumper link. Apple always receives the campaign you set on the link, so App Store Connect keeps your names.

Store badges that count

Like the official “Download on the App Store” and “Get it on Google Play” badges? Link both through your Jumper link: add ?_jb=ios behind the App Store badge and ?_jb=android behind the Google Play badge. Each badge then always opens its own store, with your campaign names, and Jumper counts the taps on each badge.

What it does not do

Some company mail filters open every link to check it before the reader does. Jumper answers known link checkers with a preview instead of sending them to a store, but a checker that looks like a normal browser looks like a visitor, so a burst of taps in the first minute after a send may not be people. Jumper does not count email opens.

Jumper counts taps; Apple and Google count installs, and Apple hides campaign numbers that are too small. The link does not open your app when it is already installed, has no deferred deep links and does not follow people inside your app. It is a marketing link and its numbers, not an attribution platform.

Questions

Should I use two buttons or one in my emails?

Either works. One “Get the app” button with your Jumper link sends each phone to its own store. If you show both official badges, link both through Jumper with ?_jb=ios and ?_jb=android, and each badge opens its own store.

What happens when someone opens the email on a computer?

They see a landing page for your app with the store buttons, a QR code to scan with their phone and a form that sends the link to their phone.

My email tool tracks clicks. Does that break the link?

No. The email tool sends the click to your Jumper link, which then sends the phone to its store. If the tool adds its own campaign tags, Google Play gets those; Apple keeps the campaign you set on the link.

Does it work in Gmail and Apple Mail?

Yes. Gmail and Apple Mail open links in Safari or Chrome, where the stores open directly. Our test results list Gmail on iPhone and Android.

What does it cost?

3 free credits: each link or page uses one. Free credits renew every year. After that: $2 a credit a year, 10 credits for $10, 100 credits for $20. Taps are unlimited and there are no ads.

Will the link open my app if it is already installed?

No. A Jumper link always goes to the store, which shows an “Open” button when the app is installed. Opening a screen inside your app needs Universal Links and App Links on your own domain.
